Official release from the NJCAA office

Zack Crockett, a former star running back at Hinds Community College in 1990 and 1991, was recently inducted into the 2014 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame class.

He joins Willie Hall and Chuck Muncie of Arizona Western College, former Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College head coach Steve Campbell as the player and coach inductees. The 2001 Kilgore (Texas) College Rangers were added as the team inductee.

Crockett, a former star at Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Fla., claimed Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) South Division MVP honors and was an All-State, All-Region, and NJCAA All-American selection in 1991. He set a school record that has yet to be broken by rushing 43 times in a single game as a sophomore in 1991.

He continued his playing career at Florida State University during the 1992 and 1994 seasons. In 1994, he led FSU with 11 touchdowns and compiled 506 yards of total offense for the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) champions.

Crockett was then selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the third round of the 1995 NFL draft, enjoying a 13-year playing career as a fullback with the Colts (1997-1998), Jacksonville Jaguars (1998), Oakland Raiders (1999-2006), Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys, both during the 2007 season.

He enjoyed one of the greatest moments of his pro career in the 1995 AFC Wildcard game. Starting in place of an injured Hall of Famer in Marshall Faulk, Crockett rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Colts to their first playoff victory in 24 years.

In 1999, he was signed by the Oakland Raiders where he played fullback for eight seasons, scoring 35 touchdowns on the ground, which ranks third all-time in rushing touchdowns in Oakland.

Crockett currently serves as a professional scout for the Oakland Raiders.
