The Hinds Community College baseball team captured a critical road doubleheader at Co-Lin Community College on Tuesday, winning game one, 18-9, and squeaking out a 3-2 victory in the second game.

Hinds is now 24-13 overall and 14-4 in the South division and will now look forward to a pivotal showdown with Jones County Junior College on Friday in Raymond. Game time for the first pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Joe G. Moss Field.

The Bobcats enter the Good Friday matchup ranked No. 1 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll and as of Wednesday, sit just one game ahead of Hinds in the South standings with a 13-3 mark and a doubleheader looming today against Southwest Community College.

Matt Jones (Madison) led the Hinds offense in game one on Monday, as the freshman second baseman finished the opener with five hits to lead the 25-hit, 18-run attack.

Michael Jolly (Mobile, Ala.) picked up the win on the mound in game one to move to 2-3 on the season.

Houston Case (Brookhaven) was once again terrific on the mound in the second game, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing two unearned runs to keep the Wolves at bay. The freshman right-hander has had his share of tough luck in getting a win this season, but was able to pick up his first collegiate victory to move to 1-2 on the year.

Daniel Briner (Madison) got the last two outs of the seventh inning and was able to bridge the gap for Austin Sanders (Madison), who threw a flawless seventh inning to record the third save of his freshman season.

Luke Reynolds (Forest) led the Hinds offense in the second game against Co-Lin, as the freshman infielder hit a solo home run and later drove in the eventual go-ahead run with a two-out single in the fifth inning.

Hinds split a South division doubleheader at home against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Saturday. The Eagles hammered the Bulldogs, 17-7, in the first game before dropping the second game, 7-3.

Jones led the way in both games, finishing the day 5-6 with three home runs, five RBI, four runs scored and two walks. He was 3-3 in the opener with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored.

He hit the first of back-to-back-to-back home runs and was followed up by Tyler Cox (Brandon) and Brian Mills (Mendenhall), who each hit solo shots as part of an eight-run fourth inning.

Marshall Boggs (Cleveland) was also a perfect 3-3 in the first game, and Chase Lunceford (Clinton) and Caleb Upton (Natchez) also chipped in with two hits.

Randy Bell (Woodville) moved to 6-2 on the year after throwing 4.1 innings and allowing only four hits in the Saturday lidlifter.

In the second game, Jones picked up where he left off in the opener, going 2-3 with another home run and also added an RBI and run scored.

Jolly took the loss on the mound in the second game after going three innings and allowing three earned runs.
