The Hinds Eagles baseball team split a doubleheader at East Central Community College on Tuesday to move to 9-3 in the South division, good enough for a first place tie with Jones County Junior College after the first half of conference play.

Hinds won game one, 6-5, before falling in the nightcap, 2-1. The Eagles now sit at 19-12 overall.

Austin Sanders (Madison) was near flawless once again in relief, throwing 2.2 innings and picking up the win on the mound to move to 4-0 on the season.

Casey Echols (Braxton) ripped a 3-0 single to left field to score the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run in the sixth inning to push Hinds ahead, 6-5.

In the second game, the Eagles were led by Luke Reynolds (Forest), who finished with two doubles and reached base three times. The freshman third baseman also doubled in the opener versus East Central.

Casey Sutton (Monroe, La.) was tremendous on the mound, but unfortunately suffered the loss when the Warriors scored the walk-off run on a bunt single with two outs for the victory. The freshman right-hander fell to 4-2 on the year.

Hinds played host to Pearl River Community College on Sunday and came away with a two-game sweep of the Wildcats, winning game one, 8-7, and game two, 2-1. Both victories were of the comeback variety and each came in the sixth inning.

Sanders played a huge factor in both contests, earning the win in the opener and throwing a scoreless seventh inning in the second game to pick up his second save of the year. Derek Martin (Flora) was the pitcher of record in the second game, picking up the win to move to 3-2.

Caleb Upton (Natchez) led the way offensively in game one, going 3-4 with two RBI, including an opposite field home run late in the contest.

Houston Case (Brookhaven) picked up a no decision on the mound in the second game, despite throwing five stellar innings and allowing only two hits while striking out four hitters.

Jonathan Washam (Sterlington, La.), who finished with two hits, got the game-winning double in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the Eagles ahead, 2-1.

Hinds returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Summit to take on Southwest Community College. The first game is set for 1 p.m.
