Lady Eagles win three of four over the weekend

The Hinds Community College softball program won three out of four contests over the weekend to even their overall record at 3-3 on the young 2015 season.
 
The Lady Eagles defeated Bossier Parish (La.) Community College three consecutive times over the course of Friday and Saturday before falling in the weekend finale to Holmes Community College, 3-1, on Saturday.
 
Alexis Kinard (Terry) was the offensive leader for the Lady Eagles in the loss to Holmes, going 2-3 with one home run, one RBI and a run scored.
 
Courtenay Holt (Brandon) and Alexis Patterson (Vicksburg) each went 1-4 on the contest.
 
Meagan Duchesne (Mangham, La.) was the tough-luck loser in the circle versus Holmes, throwing four innings and allowing only three runs while striking out three batters.
 
Jessica Travis (Oak Grove, La.) was the story of the opening game on Saturday versus Bossier Parish, as the righty threw a seven inning, complete game to get the win and move to 1-1 after allowing only two runs (one earned), striking out one and not allowing a single walk.
 
Duchesne and Holt each hit a solo home run, while Gabby Franklin (Waynesboro) went 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored in the win.
 
Hinds defeated Bossier Parish, 9-7, in the nightcap on Friday, and handed the Lady Cavaliers a 5-2 loss in the opener, which was the first win of the 2015 season for the Lady Eagles.
 
Duchesne picked up her first collegiate victory in the circle in game two, going three innings and allowing only four hits and two runs (zero earned). Faith Thomas (Vicksburg) also picked up her first save at the collegiate level in the win.
 
Holt led Hinds offensively, going 1-3 with one home run, one run scored and three RBI, while Katie Bunch (Waynesboro) and Thomas each added a hit and two RBI.
 
Bridgett Goss (Bogalusa, La.), like Travis on Saturday, was the headliner in the first game on Friday, throwing all seven innings and allowing only two runs (one earned), while finishing with one strikeout and no walks allowed.
 
Duchesne was the heavy hitter in the victory, going 2-3 and accounting for all five runs on her three-run double and two-run home run.
 
Patterson was 2-3 with two runs scored in the win.
 
The Lady Eagles opened the season on Monday, Feb. 9 versus Itawamba Community College at home, but fell in both games of the two-game set, 16-7 in game two and 9-5 in the season opener.
 
Holt and Patterson each went 3-4 in game two, with Holt scoring two runs and adding an RBI, while Patterson drove in two runs.
 
Duchesne went 2-3 with two runs scored, while Kinard had a hit and two RBI to aid the offense.
 
Patterson was the leader on offense in the season lidlifter, going 2-4 with one home run, one RBI and one run scored, while Brianna McMillan (Taylorsville) had three hits and Bunch had two hits and one RBI.
 
Hinds will now return to action on Thursday, hosting Northwest Community College in a 1 p.m. at Rene Warren Field in Raymond.
