RAYMOND, Miss. – Hinds Community College recognized two of its top student-athletes on Friday as softball standout Mackenzie Smith and men's soccer standout Elliot Duffy were presented with the prestigious Eagle Award during a ceremony held inside Mayo Fieldhouse alongside their families and coaching staffs.

The Eagle Award is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female student-athletes at Hinds Community College. Head coaches from each athletic program submit nominations, with the Hinds Athletics administrative staff selecting the recipients based on their achievements both on and off the field.

Smith, a native of Hattiesburg, served as the starting right fielder for the Hinds softball team and appeared in all 50 games this season. She finished the year batting .277 with 40 hits while ranking second on the team with three triples. Smith also added three home runs and 33 RBI during an impressive sophomore campaign.

Away from competition, Smith excelled academically and within the campus community. She maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA and was heavily involved across campus as a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) leadership team, Phi Theta Kappa, the President's and Dean's Lists, and Who's Who.

Duffy, a native of Bedford, England, anchored the Hinds men's soccer team as the starting goalkeeper, appearing in all 20 matches during the season. He recorded 72 saves while allowing just 25 goals on the year and earned the respect of his teammates by being voted team captain. Duffy also collected All-MACCC First Team honors for the first time in his career after earning all-conference recognition in back-to-back seasons.

Off the field, Duffy remained active in the community by volunteering with the Clinton Youth Soccer Association and serving as a tutor.
