Lady Eagles split conference opener with Meridian

The Hinds Lady Eagles softball team opened South division play with a doubleheader split at Meridian Community College on Saturday.

Hinds (7-5 overall and 1-1 in the South) dropped game one, 8-0, before rebounding with an 11-5 victory in the nightcap.

Courtenay Holt (Brandon) and Alexis Patterson (Vicksburg) each had a hit in the shutout loss in game one.

The Lady Eagles offense exploded in the second game, as Bailey Dodd (Gulfport), Holt, Bre Glenn (Brandon) and Molli Douglass (Clinton) all had two hits in the 11-5 victory.

Glenn and Holt, who were high school teammates at Brandon High School, each went 2-5 with three RBI.

Dodd and Douglass both scored two runs in the win.

Alaken McNeer (Holly Springs) picked up the win in the circle after throwing three shutout innings in game two.

The Lady Eagles return to conference action on Tuesday, hosting Pearl River Community College at 1 p.m. at Rene Warren Field in Raymond, weather permitting.
