Softball to host final home games on Saturday

2015 Hinds sophomores

The Hinds Community College softball team will wrap up the home portion of the 2015 schedule on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., hosting Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Tomorrow's games will also mark the final home games for the Lady Eagles sophomore class and each sophomore will be recognized on the field at 12:30 p.m., just prior to the start of the first game on Saturday.

The Lady Eagles played at Rene Warren Field on Wednesday and were looking to come away with a victory or two from No. 3 ranked Jones County Junior College, but it was not meant to be, as the visiting Lady Bobcats came away with the doubleheader sweep.

Jones won game one, 7-1, before capturing the nightcap, 7-3.

The losses moved the Lady Eagles overall record to 13-19 overall and 7-15 in the South division.

Tory Laird (Natchez) was the lone Hinds player with multiple hits in the game one loss on Wednesday, as she was 2-3 in the opener.

Alexis Patterson (Vicksburg) was 1-3 and drove in the only run for Hinds in the opener.

Bridgett Goss (Bogalusa, La.) went the distance in the circle for the Lady Eagles, but was unable to garner up enough offensive support, thus coming away with the loss to fall to 6-7 on the season.

In game two, the Hinds offense was led by Bailey Dodd (Gulfport), who was 2-4 with a run scored.

Brianna McMillan (Taylorsville) had a hit and drove in two runs, while Patterson had an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Jessica Travis (Oak Grove, La.) took the loss in the circle in the second game despite going 5.1 innings. She fell to 3-7 on the year.
