Softball shuts out Southwest; Fri & Mon games postponed

Bridgett Goss (18) threw her second consecutive shutout on Wednesday

Wednesday was a day to remember for the Hinds Community College softball team, as the Lady Eagles shut out Southwest Community College on the day, winning game one, 2-0, and game two, 10-0.

The two-game sweep of Southwest moved the Lady Eagles overall record to 13-17 overall and 7-13 in the South division.

The Lady Eagles were scheduled to travel to Northwest Community College on Good Friday and to Itawamba Community College on Monday, but both doubleheaders have been postponed due to the Rangers and Lady Indians needing to complete conference games that were canceled earlier in the season.

Hinds will now return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 8, hosting Jones County Junior College in a conference doubleheader at 2 p.m. in Raymond.

Bridgett Goss (Bogalusa, La.) was outstanding once again in the circle in game one versus Southwest, as she threw a seven inning complete game, allowing only two hits and finishing with three strikeouts.

The shutout is the second straight scoreless outing for Goss, who moved to 6-6 on the season with Wednesday's win.

Bre Glenn (Brandon) continued her hot streak at the plate, going 3-3 with a run scored in the opener versus Southwest.

Jessica Travis (Oak Grove, La.) matched Goss with shutout pitching of her own in game two, going all five innings and finishing with two strikeouts and scattering five hits in the contest that was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Glenn picked up where she left off in the first game, going 3-4 with a home run, double, three RBI and two runs scored in the nightcap.

Meagan Duchesne (Mangham, La.) was 2-3 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored, while Kayla Bunch (Waynesboro) and Molli Douglass (Clinton) each finished with two hits as well in game two.

Bunch scored a run, while Douglass added a double, RBI and scored a run.
