Joe G. Moss Field on the Raymond Campus of Hinds Community College will be the site of this weekend's first round of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) baseball playoffs between Hinds and Southwest Community College.

Hinds (36-5 overall, 23-5 in the MACJC) ended the regular season on Monday as the number one seed out of the entire conference, thus earning the right to host the first round and will welcome Southwest (20-22 overall, 13-15 in the MACJC), the eighth place seed in the MACJC, to town for a best two-of-three series beginning on Friday night.

The Eagles of Hinds are currently ranked No. 3 in the country in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll.

The series will open on Friday night at 6 p.m. at Joe G. Moss Field, with game two starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday. If a third game is necessary, the two teams will square off approximately 30 minutes after the opening game on Saturday has ended.

Hinds is hitting .328 as a team, led by sophomore shortstop Jordan Washam (Sterlington, La.), who is hitting a team-leading .385 and also has 13 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 25 RBI and is tied for the team lead in steals with nine.

Sophomore catcher Jonathan Washam (Sterlington, La.) is the team leader in doubles with 16 and narrowly trails twin brother Jordan in batting average with a .377 mark.

Chase Lunceford (Clinton), a sophomore third baseman, leads the Eagles in home runs with seven and is second on the team in RBI (35).

The Eagles pitching staff has been stellar all season, led by Randy Bell (Woodville) and Austin Sanders (Madison), who have contributed a large part to a team ERA of 3.62.

Bell is a perfect 9-0 while leading the Eagles in innings pitched (60) and ERA (2.25) and is second on the team with 45 strikeouts.

Sanders is 4-1 with 11 saves and is second on the team with a 2.40 ERA. He is the all-time saves leader in Hinds history, both regular season (11) and career (21).

Walt Aldridge (.339, 13 2Bs, 2 HR, 19 RBI), Trent Gordy (.337, 10 2Bs, 3B, 18 RBI), Ross Buckley (.324, 12 2Bs, 1 3B, 2 HR, 30 RBI) and L.D. Coney (.326, 9 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 18 RBI) lead the Bears of Southwest at the plate.

Southwest is hitting .293 as a team entering Friday's contest.

On the mound, Southwest boasts a 4.77 team ERA, led by Sam Richard, who leads the Bears in wins (five), innings pitched (57.2) and is second on the team with a 3.12 ERA. Jade Whitten has also been solid for SW, posting a 4-0 mark with one save and a team leading 2.25 ERA.
