Football stars extend careers on National Signing Day

The Hinds Community College football program had seven student-athletes from the class of 2015 sign National Letters of Intent to extend their playing careers on Wednesday on National Signing Day.

The seven former Eagles are:
  • DeCory McGee (Clinton), defensive back, Delta State University
  • Marquez McNair (Magee), wide receiver, University of Texas-San Antonio
  • Nate Strong (Fairview Heights, Ill.), running back, University of Missouri
  • D'Tavieus Taylor (Pearl), offensive lineman, University of South Alabama
  • Greg Taylor (East St. Louis, Ill.), defensive back, University of Missouri
  • Jahmmir Taylor (Fairburn, Ga.), wide receiver, University of South Alabama
  • Javon Wims (Miami, Fla.), wide receiver, University of Georgia     
 
McGee, a sophomore defensive back who was named to the MACJC All-State Honorable Mention team, shared top honors in most interceptions on the team (three) and in pass breakups (five). He returned two of the interceptions for touchdowns, and also had 27 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
 
McGee was also named as the MVP of the 2015 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-Star game after collecting two interceptions in the game.
 
McNair, a Magee native and Magee High School graduate, led the Eagles receiving corps in receptions (30), yards (433) and touchdowns (four) as a freshman in 2014, before sitting out the final eight games of the 2015 season with an injury. He will have three seasons of eligibility at UTSA.
 
Strong, a freshman running back, rushed 15 times for 102 yards in 2015 before an injury ended his season in the second game.
 
D'Tavieus Taylor, a sophomore offensive lineman, helped pave the way for a Hinds offense that averaged 426.4 yards per contest in 2015 and was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American Honorable Mention team at the conclusion of the 2015 season.
 
Greg Taylor, a sophomore defensive back, tied for the team lead with three interceptions to go along with 53 tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass breakup. He also had a punt return for a touchdown and was named to the NJCAA All-American second team in 2015.
 
Jahmmir Taylor, a sophomore wide receiver, had 31 receptions for 559 yards and six touchdowns, as well as seven carries for 21 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He was named to the MACJC All-State second team as a sophomore in 2015.
 
Wims, a sophomore wide receiver, was named Most Outstanding Offensive Player for the South division after reeling in 47 passes for 779 yards and nine touchdowns, which led the Eagles in all three categories. He was also named to the NJCAA All-American second team in 2015.
 
The seven February signees join the nine Hinds student-athletes who signed with four-year schools in the December Mid-Year Signing Period.
