RAYMOND- Following a successful season, eight different Hinds Community College Eagles football players were recognized for their outstanding performances on the gridiron.
On offense, freshman lineman
Zacchaeus Sais (Rolling Fork) received All Region XXIII honors as well as First Team All-State. Sophomore returner
DeMichael Harris (Vicksburg) was also awarded First Team All-State. Sophomore wide receiver Stephen Guidry (New Roads, La.), sophomore running back
DeVante Scott (Scooba) and freshman quarterback
Tylan Morton (Griffin, Ga.) all received Second Team All-State awards for their stellar performances.
On defense, sophomore linebacker/defensive back hybrid Byron Galvin (Vicksburg) hauled in four awards, including All Region XXIII defensive back, All Region XXIII MVP defensive back, First Team All-State linebacker and First Team All-State MVP defensive back.
Freshman defensive end Ivin White (Port Gibson) collected three awards of his own, including All Region XXIII defensive lineman, First Team All-State defensive lineman and First Team All-State MVP defensive lineman. Sophomore defensive back
Deveon Ball (Vicksburg) was awarded First Team All-State defensive back.
Additionally, a total of fourteen Eagles received honorable mention. On offense, wide receivers
Chris Blair (Louisville),
Ra'Meik Wallace (Shubuta),
John Hightower (Landover, Md.), and
DeMarcus Frazier (Louisville) hauled in the honorable mention award. Offensive linemen,
John Dale (Scooba) and
Devin Morton (West Point) blocked and protected their way to honorable mention. Last but not least on offense, running back Dallas Sims (Buckatunna) ran his way to honorable mention.
On defense, linebacker Tarren Smith (Greenwood), defensive lineman Quindarius Bivens (Waynesboro), defensive backs
Emanuel Dabney (Jackson) and Joseph Nutall (Jackson), and defensive end
Umstead Sanders ([ort St. Joe, Fla.) all earned honorable mention.
On special teams, kicker/punter
Spencer Cole (Flowood) and long snapper
Hunter James (Waynesboro) received honorable mention honors.
The 2017 Eagle football team finished the season 6-3 earning a berth to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College playoffs. Currently, the Eagles are eagerly awaiting to hear from the National Junior College Athletic Association whether they will receive a berth to play in a bowl game.
