Hinds Football Great, Brad Banks, Set to Present the Davey O’Brien Award


RAYMOND- Hinds Football great, Brad Banks, is set to be the presenter of the Davey O'Brien Award at the ESPN College Football Award show. The Award show will take place tonight, Dec. 7 on ESPN at 6 p.m. CT.

The Davey O'Brien Award is given annually to the collegiate American football player adjudged by the Davey O'Brien Foundation to be the best of all National Collegiate Athletic Association quarterbacks.

Brad Banks was the recipient of the Davey O'Brien Award in 2002 after leading the University of Iowa to an 11-2 record, a top-10 ranking, and a tie with Ohio State for the Big Ten conference championship. Banks was also the 2002 Heisman Trophy runner-up to Carson Palmer, the AP Player of the Year and the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.

Prior to Iowa, Banks was dominating the gridiron in Raymond, Mississippi at Hinds Community College. In 2000, Banks led Hinds to an 11-1 record and the State Junior College Title in a season where he passed for 2,192 yards with 16 passing touchdowns and rushed for 343 yards with 13 rushing touchdowns. Banks was later named to the Hinds Team of the Decade.
