RAYMOND- The 2018 Lady Eagles softball team is off to a good start on the season as they are at a mark of 12 – 9 through 21 games matching the team's win total from all of last season. The Lady Eagles have won 4 of their last 6 ball games due, in large part, to the efforts of freshman first baseman Madeleine Hart (Kingwood, TX).
The Lady Eagles' first baseman was named MACJC Player of the Week for her efforts in the February 28th and March 3rd games against Meridian Community College (MCC) and Itawamba Community College (ICC), respectively. The freshman first baseman from Kingwood Park High School went 5-12 (.417) at the plate in 4 games collecting 9 runs batted in (RBI), 3 home runs, 1 double, and 2 walks while scoring 5 times along the way. The freshman standout joins Nikki Skerlong (Eros, LA) as the second MACJC Player of the Week selection on the season.
Hart's impressive performance at the plate has contributed to the team's early-season success. The Lady Eagles are currently on a stretch in which they have won 4 of their last 6 games while playing 4 of those games at home. The team is looking to continue this streak of wins as they will play Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) and Southwest Mississippi Community College (SWCC), next. The Lady Eagles beat these two teams earlier in the season and intend to do the same in the upcoming match-ups.
The Lady Eagles will take on MDCC in Moorhead on March 9th at 1 and 3 p.m. before returning home to face SWCC at Rene Warren Field on March 21st at 3 and 5 p.m. To support the Lady Eagles on the road, follow them on Twitter for updates on scores at @LadyEaglesSFBL.
