RAYMOND – The Lady Eagles Softball program got off to a hot start his past weekend as they opened up their season with 3 straight victories over Spoon River Community College.
This past Friday (Feb. 1), the Lady Eagles opened up their season and protected their home field by winning both games of the double-header against Spoon River.
In game one of the double-header the Lady Eagles won 6-1.
Sydney Davis started in the circle for Hinds and earned the win as she threw five innings, allowed just four hits and one run. Davis also struck out four batters.
Rebecca Grewe closed the game out for Hinds and earned the save as she threw two innings, allowed zero hits, and struck out two batters. The Lady Eagle offense put up nine hits and scored six runs.
Hanna Wilkerson,
Tica Watts, and
Hanna Mitchell collected two hits a piece while
Mary Haydon Williams,
Jessica Deming, and
Madeleine Hart added a hit of their own.
In game two of the double header, the Lady Eagles earned an 8-3 victory. In the circle,
Bryanna Luke earned the win after she threw five innings, allowed zero runs, and struck out three batters.
Anna Rigdon earned the save as she threw the final two innings. Rigdon allowed just one earned run, and struck out two batters. The Lady Eagle offense pounded out 11 hits and scored eight runs.
Hanna Mitchell led the way with three hits and two runs batted in.
Kasy Cortezie and
Katie Cheeks added two hits of their own while
Hanna Wilkerson,
Jessica Deming,
Amelia Purdy, and
Samantha Keel all had one hit a piece.
On Saturday (Feb. 2), the Lady Eagles added their third win of the season with a 10-3 victory over Spoon River before falling to Copiah-Lincoln Community College in game two of their double-header.
In game one against Spoon River, the Lady Eagles were led offensively by
Hanna Wilkerson who collected two hits and drove in four runs. Additionally,
Amelia Purdy and
Hanna Mitchell each smashed two hits of their own.
Cassidy Rhea earned the win in the circle as she threw five innings, allowed just one earned run, and struck out six batters.
In their fourth game in less than 24 hours, the Lady Eagles fell 6-0 to the Lady Wolves of Co-lin.
The Lady Eagles (3-1) will be back in action today (Feb. 4) as they take on the Lady Bears of Southwest Mississippi Community College (0-0) in a double header at home in Raymond. Game one at Rene Warren Field is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. with game two to follow approximately at 4:00 p.m.
