The versatile
Pablo Lanzarote helped cap off a great week for the Hinds Eagle baseball team by being named NJCAA Division II and MACCC player of the week.
Lanzarote, of Venezuela, who stars at catcher, first baseman and outfielder for the Eagles, had seven hits and 11 RBIs this week to go along with three home runs during a four-game stretch that saw the Eagles, now 8-8, sweep both Southwest Mississippi Community College and Mississippi Delta Community College. The honor for Lanzarote marks the second time he's won it since coming to Hinds, the first being last February.
Pitchers
Bryce Brock, of Hernando, and
Matt Corder, of Madison, each got wins against Southwest. In Game 1, Corder got seven strikeouts and allowed just three earned runs in five and two-thirds innings pitched in an 11-9 win. He also had five hits, five RBIs and a run. In Game 2, Brock got six strikeouts and allowed just two hits in five innings pitched in a 13-2 win.
In a 15-0 shutout win over Mississippi Delta, pitcher
Caleb Sterling, of Vicksburg, got the victory, with one strikeout and just two hits over five innings pitched. The Eagles won Game 2 by a 12-2 count with several pitchers contributing to the win. The week's key contributors included:
· Connor Carter : 6 hits, 7 Runs, 2 2Bs, 1 HR, 7 RBIs
· Justin Williams : 7 hits, 2 3Bs, 7 RBIs
· Matthew Taylor : 3 IP, 1 SV, 7 Ks
The Eagles next take the field Thursday in a doubleheader at Meridian Community College. First pitch for Game 1 is at 3 p.m. For Game 2, it is 6 p.m.
They return home Saturday, March 20 in a doubleheader against Northeast Mississippi Community College. First pitch for Game 1 is at 2 p.m.
