Box Score CLARKSDALE – The Hinds Community College football team fell 21-14 to Coahoma Community College to start off the 2021 season.
The contest started off hot for Coahoma, as they forced a three and out on the opening possession and ran the ball back for a 69 yard touchdown to give them the 7-0 lead.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Eagles were able to keep the Coahoma offense at bay in the first quarter by forcing several three and outs.
During a silent start to the second quarter, the Eagles tied the game on a 14-yard run from
Jamarian Samuels. But Coahoma scored on a 63 yard touchdown pass to reclaim the lead and take a 13-7 lead into halftime.
The Eagles started off the second half strong as they quickly marched down the field and scored to take the 14-13 lead. The key plays on that drive were a 52 yard pass from
BeSean McCray to
Deontez White and a 12 yard scamper for a touchdown by
Jamarian Samuels, his second touchdown of the game. The second extra point by
Ben Duncan gave the Eagles their first lead of the contest.
Sophomore punter
Houston Smith was able to pin the Coahoma offense inside the ten yard line on multiple occassions, giving the Eagle defense a solid chance for a three and out. Smith averaged 34.5 yards per kick and had a long of 53.
Coahoma went on to score a touchdown and two point conversion to reclaim the lead. This touchdown sealed the 21-14 victory for Coahoma.
Up next for the Eagles is a home contest with Holmes Community College on Thursday, September 9. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 6:30 p.m. at Joe Renfroe Stadium.
