UTICA – Hinds Community College claimed two double-digit victories in their two games in the Coca-Cola Classic held in Summit at Southwest Mississippi Community College.
The Bulldogs took game one from Jacksonville College 86-72 and took game two from Southern University-Shreveport (SUSLA) 82-60.
"It was a great job by the whole team," said head coach Jonathan Nevol. "We took the right approach and got two big wins. We still have a lot to improve on. However, we are playing hard, tough and together. If we can keep doing that, we will be tough to beat."
In his first start of the season, Kenard Bowie (Jackson) led the team in scoring by cashing in 22 points in game one. Bowie also pulled down seven boards in the effort. Freshman guard Patrick McCraney (Monroe, LA) also reached double-digits with an 11-point game. McCraney also contributed seven rebounds, five assists and six steals. Coming off the bench and scoring double-digits were Morgan Green (Greenville) with 11 points and Taylon Smith (Vicksburg) with 15 points.
Bowie led in scoring in the 82-60 rout of SUSLA with 17 points. He was closely followed by McCraney with 15 points and Isaiah Daniel (Compton, CA) with 13 points. Although the Bulldogs saw tremendous offensive production, Hinds played stout defense by holding SUSLA to 60 points. The Bulldogs also finished the game with 16 steals with nine out of the 14 players that played getting at least one steal.
