Football to take on East Central in Decatur Thursday

9/14/2022 9:45:00 AM

RAYMOND – After starting the 2022 season 0-2, Hinds Community College football looks to grab their first win when they head to Decatur Thursday for their first road game of the season against East Central Community College (0-2) at 6:30 p.m.

The Eagles are looking to overcome their first 0-2 start since the 2016 season when they take on the Warriors in their first division game of the season. East Central is entering this game 0-2 after a 52-28 road loss to Coahoma Community College and a narrow 41-37 loss at home to Holmes Community College.

Last 10

Over the last ten games, Hinds holds a 6-4 advantage over East Central. The Eagles will go for their third consecutive win over the Warriors Thursday. The Eagles won 52-14 last season in Raymond on homecoming.

Catching a Stride

After being held to just three points in the opening game against Northeast, the Eagle offense put up 28 points in the second half alone against Northwest behind three rushing touchdowns and one passing. Hinds capped out at 156 yards on the ground and 212 through the air.

Defensive Adjustments

The Eagle defense held the Rangers of Northwest to just seven second half points after allowing 24 in the first half.

Hinds will have to keep the Warrior offense at bay, one that is averaging 32 points per game going into week three.

On the Run

Sophomore running backs Jeffrey Pittman (Taylorsville) and Jamarian Samuels (Ocala, Fla.) helped bring the Eagle rushing attack to life with their combined three rushing touchdowns in week two. Pittman got the scoring party started with a seven-yard scamper that helped the Eagles mount a substantial comeback against fourth-ranked Northwest.

The Eagle rushing attack looks to have the same success as they did in 2021, where they rushed for 405 yards in last year's win over East Central. The Warriors are currently allowing 215 rushing yards per game.
