RAYMOND, Miss. - The Hinds Community College Baseball team won the series against St. Charles Community College last week inside Joe G. Moss Field. The Eagles swept the doubleheader on Friday but fell on Saturday by a final score of 6-5.
GAME ONE
Ashton Johnson scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the first after he stole home to give Hinds the 1-0 advantage. In the same inning, Connor Chisolm scored off a sacrifice fly by Cole Smith, giving the Eagles the 2-0 lead.
The visitors could not get anything going in the top of the second inning, but Hinds scored three additional runs to take a commanding lead. St. Charles scored their first run of the game in the top of the third inning, but the Eagles responded in the bottom half of the inning when Cameron Hill hit a solo homerun to make the score 6-1.
Hinds scored one run in the fourth, one run in the fifth, and two runs in the sixth to take the 10-1 advantage. The Cougars scratched across two runs in the top of the eighth inning to make the score 10-3. The Eagles kept their foot on the accelerator and scored two additional runs in the bottom of the frame to bring the score to 12-3. The Eagles held the Cougars at bay for the rest of the contest to secure the 12-3 victory over St. Charles.
Lincoln Sheffield got the start on the mound for the Eagles in game one of the doubleheader and earned the win in the contest. Austin Robinson came out of the bullpen in relief and totaled nine strikeouts in three innings for the Eagles.
Offensively, Clay Benson and Cameron Hill were the only Eagles to hit a homerun in the game. Benson went 1-2 with four RBI and one run scored, while Hill went 2-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Connor Chisolm went 2-2 at the plate, had an RBI, and scored four runs in the contest.
GAME TWO
The Eagles' bats remained hot in the second game of the doubleheader as the Eagles dominated the Cougars 12-1 in seven innings.
Hinds got off to a hot start scoring four runs in the first inning to take a quick 4-0 advantage. St. Charles scored their first and only run of the contest in the top of the second inning after an RBI Single to centerfield to make the score 4-1. In the bottom half of the second inning Dylan Coleman hit a two-run shot to left field to extend the Eagles' lead to 6-1.
The Eagles' offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third inning to bring the score to 12-1. Neither team scored for the rest of the contest as the Eagles secured the 12-1 victory in seven innings.
Ryan Herbison got the start on the bump for Hinds and tossed 3.0 innings, allowed only one run on two hits and six strikeouts. John David Gunn and Benji Webb were flawless in relief and did not give up a single hit. Darious Anderson came in and slammed the door in the final frame as the Eagles improved to 4-0 on the season. As a team, Hinds scored 12 runs on eight hits to secure the 12-1 victory over St. Charles in game two of the doubleheader.
GAME THREE
After a scoreless first and second inning, the Cougars scored the first run of the game in the top of the third to take the early advantage. The Eagles scored off an error to level the contest in the bottom half of the inning. St. Charles hit a solo homerun in the top of the fourth inning to regain the lead.
Dylan Coleman hit a sacrifice fly to deep center that scored Johnson as the Eagles evened the contest. The Cougars scored four runs int the top of the sixth inning to bring the score to 6-2. The Eagles had a late rally in the bottom of the sixth and seventh but fell 6-5 for their first loss of the season.
Cole Smith got the start on the mound for the Eagles and tossed 4.0 innings. Owen Hendry took the loss in relief after striking out two batters. John-Hollis Hutchinson came in for the final frame and totaled two strikeouts.
As a team, the Eagles scored five runs on eight hits and four RBI in the contest. Evan McCarthy went 2-3at the plate and registered a homerun.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, February 15 against the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans in Vicksburg at Sports Force Parks. The First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:00 p.m.
