Box Score 2 VICKSBURG, Miss. - The Hinds Community College Baseball team split their doubleheader against Mississippi Delta Community College at Sports Force Parks on Wednesday. The hosts took the opening game 7-4, but the Eagles bounced back in the night cap with a 7-1 win over the Trojans.
GAME ONE
In the opening game, the visitors got on the board first with a solo shot to left field to take the 1-0 advantage. The Trojans extended their lead to 4-0 after a couple of RBI singles in the bottom of the third inning.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Eagles cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning after Ashton Johnson and Dylan Coleman hit RBI singles. In the same inning, Clay Benson roped an RBI double to centerfield to give the Eagles their third run of the game.
MDCC scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 7-3. Clay Benson hit a solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 7-4. The Trojans went on to take game one 7-4 at Sports Force Parks.
Mayson Shealy got the start on the mound for the Eagles and took the loss in the game. Shealy tossed 4.0 innings and struck out eight batters. Matthew Azordegan came in relief and totaled five strikeouts over two innings pitched.
Offensively, Clay Benson led the Eagles going 3-4 at the plate and had a team-high two RBI. Connor Chisolm, Ashton Johnson, and Cameron Hill each had multiple hits in the contest.
GAME TWO
Looking to bounce back to split the doubleheader, the Eagles leaned a stellar outing on the mound by starting pitcher Connor Nation. After a scoreless first inning, Spencer Wilson got the Eagles on the board hitting a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Clay Benson.
The Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 after an RBI single by Connor Chisolm and an RBI double by Clay Benson in the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the third inning, the visitors broke up the shutout after they scored off an RBI double to make the score 3-1.
Hinds scored three insurance runs in the top of the fourth inning by way of a wild pitch, fielder's choice, and a passed ball to bring the score to 6-1. After a scoreless fifth and sixth inning, Connor Chisolm hit a shot to right field to extend the Eagles' lead to 7-1. The Eagles shut down the Trojans in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn the 7-1 victory and secure the split in the doubleheader.
Offensively, Clay Benson went 3-3 from the plate with two doubles, one run scored, and one RBI in the contest. Connor Chisolm had a .500 batting average, scored two runs, one homerun, and registered two RBI in the game.
Connor Nation got the start and win on the mound and tossed 5.2 innings for the Eagles. Additionally, Nation struck out two batters and only gave up one run. Brady Boykin came in relief for the Eagles, had two strikeouts, and did not give up a single hit in the game.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday, February 17th with a doubleheader against Rend Lake College and St. Charles Community College in Millington, Tenn. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12PM.
