Hinds Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Meridian

RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Softball team picked up a conference sweep over Meridian Community College on Tuesday at Rene T. Warren Field. In game one, Hinds earned the walk off win 3-2 and came back for the nightcap to grab their second conference sweep on the season.
 
GAME ONE
 
The visitors scored the first run of the contest in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 advantage. Neither team scored for the next three innings until Meridian plated an additional run to take the 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. With their backs against the wall, Hinds scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn the 3-2 walk off win. 
 
Kasey Simmons got the start in the circle for Hinds and went 1.1 innings and faced nine batters. Riley Myers held Meridian to three hits in 5.2 innings to earn the victory for Hinds. 
 
Melina Seiferd hit a two-RBI single to even the contest up at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Carli Estis went 3-4 from the plate and knocked in the game-winner for the Lady Eagles to walk it off 3-2. 

 
GAME TWO
 
Meridian came out firing on all cylinders, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 advantage. In the bottom half of the first frame, the Lady Eagles scored two runs to cut the lead to just one run. Hinds scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the 4-3 advantage over Meridian. Neither team scored the rest of the contest as Hinds picked up the 4-3 victory and earned the doubleheader sweep. 
 
Melina Seiferd went the distance in the circle for Hinds and faced 31 batters. Gracie Lay led the offense going 2-4 from the plate and tallied two RBI. Kasey Simmons and Natalie Martin posted an RBI in the contest. As a team, the Lady Eagles totaled seven hits in the game. 
 
UP NEXT 
 
The Lady Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, April 12th against the Southwest Mississippi Community College Lady Bears in Summit, MS. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
