CARTHAGE, Texas – The Hinds Community College Baseball team picked up two impressive victories on Friday afternoon against Panola College in Carthage, Texas. In game one, the Eagles grabbed the 6-2 win and came back in the night cap to run-rule Panola 11-1 in eight innings. With the sweep, the Eagles improve to 5-2 overall.
GAME ONE
Hinds scored the first three runs of the game in the first three innings of game. The Eagles extended their lead to 6-0 after four innings of play. Panola scored their first run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring the score to 6-1. Panola scored an additional run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Eagles went on to take game one 6-2.
Tyler Janos went 2-3 from the plate and scored two runs,
Ashton Johnson also had multiple hits and had two stolen bases in the contest.
Thomas Marsala hit the only homer for the Eagles, while
Graham Busbea finished the afternoon with a couple of RBI.
Lincoln Sheffield got the start and captured his second victory on the mound for the Eagles. Sheffield had a stellar outing with 6.0 innings pitched and totaled nine strikeouts.
Dawson Muenzenmay came in relief and faced three batters and registered a strikeout.
GAME TWO
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Eagles dominated from start to finish. Hinds got off to hot start leading 6-0 after four innings of play. Hinds added another insurance run in the top of the fifth inning, but Panola scored their first run of the contest in the bottom of the inning to bring the score to 7-1. The Eagles' bats remained hot as they score one in the sixth and three in the eighth to put the run-rule in effect. Hinds went on to capture the 11-1 run-rule victory over and sweep the doubleheader.
Seven Eagles had multiple hits in the contest, but
Tyler Janos led the charge going 4-5 from the plate and scored two runs.
Thomas Marsala finished the game with a homerun, while
Kette Stavely had three RBI which was a team high.
Ryan Herbison picked up his victory on the mound for the Eagles and pitched 6.2 innings. He posted five strikeouts and faced 24 batters.
Alex McGarrh came in to relieve Herbison and pitched 1.1 to close out the contest.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will return to action for a doubleheader against Marion Military Institute on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at Joe G. Moss Field. The first pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 PM.
