RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Softball team took on #16 Marion Military Institute and picked up the doubleheader sweep on Monday at Rene T. Warren Field. The Lady Eagles took down MMI 9-4 in the first game of the day and followed up with a 4-2 win in game two. With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 11-7 overall. 
 
GAME ONE 
 
After a three up three down top of the first, the Lady Eagles plated a run in the bottom half of the inning to take a quick 1-0 advantage. Hinds put five more runs on the board in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 6-0. 
 
The visitor's posted their first run of the game in the top of the fourth, but the Lady Eagles followed up with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to make the score 8-1. Hinds scored another run in the contest, while MMI scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Hinds went on to cruise to a 9-4 win to grab the first win of the day. 
 
Destiny Crosby led the Lady Eagles with three hits, while Taylor Nelson and Melissa Lopera grabbed a couple of hits and drove in three runs apiece. Alexis Moran totaled two hits in the game and scored a run. Kyleigh Forsyth (7-1) went the distance in the circle for the Lady Eagles and only gave up six hits, while striking out five batters. 
 
GAME TWO
 
In the second game of the day, MMI scored the first two runs of the ballgame in the top of the first inning to take a quick 1-0 lead. Both teams could not plate a run in the next three innings as the score remained 2-0 after four innings.
 
The Lady Eagles' offense came to live scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Hinds took the 4-2 lead after five innings of play. Hinds' defense held strong and went on the grab their second win of the day with a 4-2 victory over #16 MMI.
 
Alexis Moran was the only Lady Eagle to post multiple hits in the contest, while Mackenzie Kelly and Melissa Lopera grabbed two RBI apiece to give Hinds the victory. Emily Vines picked up her third win in the circle for the Lady Eagles and tallied six strikeouts.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Lady Eagles will return to action on March 9 against RV East Mississippi CC for a doubleheader to open conference play at Rene T. Warren Field. First pitch is set for 2 PM.
