RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Football team earned a commanding 31-7 Homecoming win over Southwest Mississippi Community College on Thursday night at Gene Murphy Field inside Joe Renfroe Stadium. With the win, Hinds improves to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in South Division play.
The Eagles struck early and often, setting the tone with a 1-yard touchdown run by Julius Bradley at the 3:20 mark of the first quarter, capping a 93-yard drive that lasted 8:45. Bradley found the end zone again early in the second quarter on a 15-yard run, finishing off another long 87-yard drive.
Just seconds later, the Hinds defense made its mark. Defensive back RJ Hall intercepted a pass and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown, giving the Eagles a commanding 21-0 lead.
Hinds continued to apply pressure in the third quarter. Kicker Wyatt Long added a 22-yard field goal, pushing the lead to 24-0. The Eagles extended their advantage further when Julius Bradley capped off his three-touchdown performance with an 8-yard touchdown.
Southwest finally got on the board in the fourth quarter with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Charlie Fair to Tahj Williby, but the damage was already done. The Eagles went on to grab the 31-7 victory on Homecoming.
Offensively, quarterback Jaylon Ruffin led the way, completing 16 of 25 passes for 166 yards while also rushing for 94 yards on 10 carries. Running back Julius Bradley added 70 rushing yards and three touchdowns, powering the ground game.
Geron Johnson contributed 82 yards on 12 carries, and DJ Miller broke loose for a 51-yard run, finishing with 56 yards on just three attempts. In the air, Kiandre Terry led receivers with 56 yards, while Detraun Brown add 43 receiving yards and DJ Miller posted 32 receiving yards.
Defensively, the Eagles racked up 45 total tackles, including 8 tackles for loss. Jermar McCarter led the unit with 6 total tackles, including 2.5 TFLs for 4 yards. TJ Grant added 1.5 TFLs and Emmanuel Sutton chipped in 2 solo stops. RJ Hall made a huge impact with a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown, shifting the game's momentum.
Clifton Jobe, Trevionn Morton, and Amarien Bailey each contributed key tackles, while the team recorded two pass breakups and two quarterback hurries.
On special teams, Ryan Harvey punted three times for a total of 107 yards, with two punts landing inside the 20-yard line. He also handled kickoff duties, recording six kicks for 352 yards, averaging 58.7 yards per kick. Wyatt Long was perfect on the night, going 4-for-4 on extra point attempts and knocking through a 22-yard field goal.
The Eagles will look to carry their momentum into their final road game of the regular season on Thursday, October 23, when they travel to face Pearl River Community College.
