Ralph Moore

Respected throughout Mississippi basketball circles for his coaching abilities, Ralph Moore enters his 22nd season with Hinds Community College in 2016-2017.  

In the last 12 years the Bulldogs have finished in the top four on seven occasions in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) state tournament with the 2004 team placing state runner-up and the 2010 team finishing No. 17 in the final National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll.
 
Moore left Philadelphia High School as assistant coach to accept his first head coaching position in Brandon High School.  While there, he compiled a 44-20 record and won the “North Little Dixie” twice and the overall conference championship once, as well as being named Coach of the Year. 
 
He spent two years as the head basketball coach for Callaway High School, where he compiled a 54-18 record.  He also won the Capital Big Eight Conference, qualified for the state tournament and was named Metro Coach of the Year both years.
 
In 1984 Moore joined the University of Southern Mississippi as an assistant basketball coach wand would spend 11 years assisting them to seven post season games, five National Invitational Tournament (NIT) appearances, a 1987 championship and two National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament appearances. 
 
Born to basketball, Moore was a standout at Delta State University, where he led the team in scoring and rebounding for three years and was twice named Most Valuable Player.  Today, Moore still ranks in the top five career leaders at Delta State in both scoring and rebounding.  In 1999, Moore was inducted into the Delta State Sports Hall of Fame.
 
The McComb native was inducted into the first class of the McComb High School Alumni Hall of Fame in 2006 and a gym in the new Tiger Activity Complex in the McComb School District is named in his honor. 
 
Moore received a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Delta State University in 1977 and a master’s degree in education in 1986 from Mississippi College. 
 
He is married to Armer and they have three children, Shannon, Michael and Marcus.
