Eagles even in conference play through six games

After six South division games, the Hinds baseball team sits at 3-3 in conference and 18-5 overall.

Hinds, the number four ranked team in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll, swept a doubleheader against Co-Lin Community College on Saturday, but dropped a doubleheader to East Central Community College on Tuesday.

The Eagles won game one, 16-5, and game two, 7-3, on Saturday versus the Wolves of Co-Lin. Andrew Gunn of Clinton, a sophomore pitcher, picked up the win in relief in the first game to move to 3-0 on the season.

Alex Gunn of Clinton, a sophomore pitcher/infielder, collected two hits and picked up three RBI to pace the offense in game one. Caleb Baucum of Byram, a sophomore outfielder, hit a home run and double as well in the first game.

Tyler Akins of Madison, a sophomore infielder/pitcher, had four hits on the day, including two extra base hits.

Nathan Aultman of Mangham, La., a freshman pitcher, was the game two winner on the mound and moved to 3-0 on the year.

Akiko Thompson of Clinton, a freshman outfielder, had two hits and a RBI in game two. Baucum hit his fourth homer of the year to go along with another base hit.

Hinds fell, 13-5, in game one and, 4-3, in game two to East Central on Tuesday.

Akins and Thompson both had two hits in game one to lead the offense. Alex Gunn of Clinton, a sophomore pitcher, took the loss on the mound to move to 2-2.

In game two, the Eagles were led by Thompson and Baucum, who each picked up two hits. Akins, who took the loss on the mound to fall to 2-2, also had a two-out, two RBI single at the plate.

Hinds will return to action on Saturday, traveling to Summit to face Southwest Community College. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
