Baseball moves into title game; Game time moved to noon

Carey Taylor moved to 10-1 on the season in Friday's win

FULTON - The Hinds Community College baseball team has put itself in position for another state championship with its 16-5 win over Itawamba Community College in the winner's bracket game of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) state tournament in Fulton on Friday.

Hinds (33-16) will now take on Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at 12 p.m. on Saturday. The game time was moved up to noon in order to beat the incoming rain headed for Northeast Mississippi.

The Eagles of Hinds will need just one win in order to claim its second state championship in three years, while the Bulldogs of Gulf Coast need to defeat the Eagles twice to grab the title.

Carey Taylor (Brandon) went all seven innings for the complete game victory and moved to 10-1 on the season in the process. The righty gave up four earned runs on eight hits.

He benefitted from a 14-run sixth inning from the Hinds offense, in which all 14 of the runs were scored with two outs.

Seven Eagles players had multiple hits on the day, led by Akiko Thompson (Clinton), who had three hits and reached base all five times on the afternoon.
