Lady Bulldogs shoot for surge of momentum

In a situation much like their male counterparts, the Hinds Community College women's basketball team has lost three straight ballgames and is looking to make a surge toward the end of the 2012-2013 season with just eight regular season games remaining.

The Lady Bulldogs are now 2-13 overall and 1-3 in the South division after a 69-44 defeat at the hands of Southwest Community College on Tuesday night in Utica.

Rajee McDonald (Port Gibson) was the lone double-digit scorer for Hinds on Tuesday night with 13 points. She also pulled down six rebounds to lead all Lady Bulldogs.

Hinds dropped a narrow contest, 68-62, to Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale on Saturday in a non-conference matchup. Quin'meka Shaw (Greenville) was the leading scorer for Hinds, finishing with 19 points on the afternoon.

Mozetta Greenwood (Sharon) had 14 points and Shelley Griffith (Jackson) ended the game with 12 points against Coahoma.

The Lady Bulldogs traveled south to Ellisville on Thursday, Jan. 17 looking to secure a division win, but fell at the hands of Jones County Junior College, 78-67.

McDonald was the leading scorer for either team against Jones, as she finished with 18 points to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.

It was against East Central Community College on Monday, Jan. 14 that the Lady Bulldogs were able to pick up their only South division win, a 71-61 victory.

Laporshia Mitchell (Meridian) had 15 points to lead Hinds in the win. McDonald also had another big night with 13 points, eight rebounds and two steals.

McDonald also led the way for the Lady Bulldogs on Monday, Jan. 7 in a 58-49 non-conference loss to Holmes Community College, when she had 11 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Hinds heads to Wesson on Thursday night to face Co-Lin Community College. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
