Eagles host Southwest in final home games

The Hinds baseball team will play host to Southwest Community College today in the 2013 home finale for the Eagles. The doubleheader will start at 3 p.m. at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond.

The Eagles hosted Jones County Junior College on Saturday and were able to come away with a split of the two game set. Hinds won game one, 12-11, in eight innings, before losing game two, 6-4.

Beau Wallace (Vicksburg) and Toler Robinson (Pearl) each had three hits in the game one victory to lead the Eagles offense. Wallace was 3-4 with four runs scored and two RBI, while Robinson was 3-5 with three RBI, including the game winner in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Chase Cater (Rayville, La.) earned the win on the hill after throwing three innings of relief and allowing only one run to score.

Wallace also had a big day in the nightcap, going 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored.

On Wed, Apr. 17, Hinds traveled to Pearl River Community College looking to gain momentum in the South division, but dropped a pair in Poplarville. The Eagles fell in game one, 10-2, before losing a heartbreaker in game two, 2-1.

Connor Goodspeed (Madison) had three hits in the second game to pace the Hinds offense.

The Eagles stepped out of conference on Sat, Apr. 13, as they faced Holmes Community College. Hinds had an offensive explosion, defeating the Bulldogs, 15-4, in a run-rule game.

Brian Mills (Magee), Robinson, Justin Smith (Florence) and Akiko Thompson (Clinton) each finished two hits in the game, led by Smith's home run and four RBI.

Wesley Wilkinson (Brandon) threw two innings of shutout ball to earn his first collegiate win on the mound.

Hinds will end the regular season on Saturday, heading to Decatur to face East Central Community College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
