Eagles fall in extras

CF Akiko Thompson (9)

The game of baseball has been cruel to the Hinds Community College baseball team as of late, and Tuesday night was no exception, as the Eagles fell in game two, 8-4, in extra innings to East Central Community College.

Hinds tied the game at four with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and had two base runners on, but were unable to get the big hit to score the winning run. The Warriors of East Central then scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to pull out the victory. East Central also won game one, 7-4.

Brian Mills (Magee) had four hits on the day to lead the offensive charge for Hinds.

On Good Friday, the Eagles fell twice on the road at Southwest Community College, dropping game one, 5-3, and game two, 6-4.

Montana McDaniel (Vicksburg) had five hits and four RBI in the doubleheader, including his first collegiate home run in the first game.

On Tuesday, March 26, Hinds dropped game one in extra innings, 8-7, at Jones County Junior College, before falling 7-4 in the nightcap.

Akiko Thompson (Clinton) finished the day 4-8 to pace Hinds from his spot atop the lineup.

John Gault (Shreveport, La.) was valiant in his effort in game one versus Jones, allowing only three runs and leaving the game ahead, 7-3, but the bullpen was unable to hold the four-run lead.

Hinds will return to action on Saturday, hosting Co-Lin Community College. The doubleheader will start at 2 p.m. at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond.
