RAYMOND- The Hinds Community College women's soccer team fell to Southwest Community College in their first regular season game of the 2017 season at the Lady Eagles' Tom Shepherd field Tuesday afternoon.
The Hinds women were unable to overcome the only goal scored in the 34
th minute by SWCC on an opportunity not within the run of play via a corner kick. The Lady Eagles gave up the goal despite holding possession for the majority of the game.
"There were a lot of positives to take away from tonight" said head coach
Emily Homan. "We held possession for much of the game. We looked to be in really good shape, and every player got into the game and contributed."
Michelle Reid (Oxford), a Freshman defender for the Lady Eagles, played a pivotal role in the team's defensive efforts holding the back line for every minute of the competition. This relentless effort by Reid has become a trend throughout the Lady Eagles' young season and pre-season match-ups.
Kim Hardy's (Madison) efforts at goal keeper are also worth noting. The Freshman made a difference in the team's endeavors by making good decisions on the ball.
The Lady Eagles'
Leighton Anderson (Ocean Springs) led their offensive attacks with several shots on goal.
The Hinds Lady Eagles will next play host to Mississippi College at 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 28
th at Tom Shepherd field. This non-divisional game will serve as a good means of preparation leading into the Lady Eagles' first division game the following Friday, Sept. 1
st at Itawamba Community College.
