ELLISVILLE- The Hinds Community College Eagle baseball team concluded their season this past Friday (May 10) after falling in the decisive game three of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Playoffs.
The Eagles faced off against the No. 5 ranked Jones College Bobcats in the MACJC best two-out-of-three playoff series.
Jones took game one 10-4 before Hinds bounced back in game two winning 6-4. Game three, however, would be all Jones as they went on to win 11-0 and advance to the Region 23 tournament.
The Eagles season was an up and down affair that saw some of the highest of highs and lowest of lows. Primarily a team full of freshman, the Eagles started off unranked in the preseason before going 21-5 and reaching a national rank of 9
th in the country. The Eagles struggled throughout the remainder of the season finishing with a 26-20 record. Â
The Eagles still managed to make the playoffs, however, and were one win away from going to their third Regional in as many years. Additionally, the Eagles secured six wins against four top ten nationally ranked opponents throughout the seasons including wins against No. 2/5 Jones, No. 4 Pearl River, No. 8 Meridian, and No. 8 Northwest.
Hinds expects to return a majority of their starters both at the plate and on the mound next season and hopes their experience will propel them back to the top.
