Lady Bulldogs Capture 75-71 Overtime Victory on Sophomore Night

UTICA - The Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs captured a 75-71 overtime victory over the Copiah-Lincoln Community College (CLCC) Lady Wolves Thursday evening (Feb. 13) on sophomore night. 

First Quarter 

The CLCC Lady Wolves jumped out to an early 20-15 lead, despite the effort of the Lady Bulldogs' sophomore guard Shaniyah Meneweather (Monroe, La) who scored eight points in the first quarter. 


Second Quarter

The Lady Bulldogs stormed back in the game in the second quarter as they scored 19 points as a team which cut the CLCC lead to just one point (35-34).  Freshman center Amaz Carmichael (Lincoln, AL) and freshman guard McKinley Ware (Newton) each scored six points a piece in the second quarter. 


Third Quarter 

Freshman Guard Andrika Carter (Philadelphia) scored six points in the third quarter to help give Hinds a 49-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter. 


Fourth Quarter 

The fourth quarter was filled with excitement as Meneweather hit a lay-up with :20 seconds to give Hinds a 63-61 lead. CLCC then responded with a lay-up of their own which tied up the score at 63-63 and sent the game into overtime. 


Overtime 

Meneweather scored five points in overtime including making two crucial free throws that sealed the 75-71 victory for Hinds. 


With the win, the Lady Bulldogs snapped a 14-game losing streak and improved to 3-16 overall and 1-11 in the MACJC.

Following the game, head coach Jackie Martin-Glass and the rest of the Lady Bulldogs' program honored the teams' two sophomore guards, Shaniyah Meneweather (Monroe, La) and Marquita Cotten (Jackson).  

The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action against the East Central Community College Lady Warriors (9-12, 4-8) on Monday, February 17 at home in Utica. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm. 

Following the game against the ECCC Lady Warriors, Hinds will name the basketball court inside J.D. Boyd Gymnasium on the Utica Campus after former basketball coach Earl Joe Nelson. The dedication ceremony will take place at approximately 7 p.m. prior to the start of the men's game which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
