Lady Bulldogs show grit in 70-60 loss to Co-Lin

11/3/2022 11:19:00 PM

Box Score UTICA – Hinds Community College women's basketball fell to Copiah-Lincoln Community College 70-60 Thursday evening to open the 2022-2023 season.

In the first game of the Perry Fletcher era, the Lady Bulldogs overcame a double-digit deficit to be down four points with several minutes left in the contest.

"Coming into the game tonight I knew coach Young would have his team ready to go and they were," said head coach Perry Fletcher. "They did a great job and are a well-coached team. But I'm proud of the Lady Bulldogs for their effort tonight. Being down 20, they could have quit but they fought to cut it to four and have a chance to win."

Leading the charge for the Lady Bulldogs was San'Tiana Lumpkin (Tylertown), who scored 13 points in the game. Just barely behind Lumpkin in scoring was Tra'Shaylah Wilson (Lake), who scored 12 points.

Picking up the rest of the Lady Bulldog points were Kimiyah Williams (Meridian) with 11 points, Destiny Brown (Columbia) with five points, Adja Bryant (Brandon) with five points, Jayiah Ransom (Jackson) with five points, Lia Smith (Columbia) with four points, Chasity Woodard (Jackson) with three points and Deondrea Young (McComb) with two points.

Down the stretch, the Lady Wolves were able to pull away due to securing a lot of points in the paint.

"By us not making free throws plus Co-Lin's size in the paint hurt us down the stretch," said Fletcher. "But we will learn from this one and get back in the lab and prepare for Saturday."
