Lady Bulldogs fend off Lady Jaguars in OT for first win of season

UTICA, MS – Hinds Community College women's basketball pulled out a gritty win over Southern University-Shreveport (SUSLA) in overtime 79-74 for their first win of the 2022-2023 season.

"Today was all about effort and attitude," said head coach Perry Fletcher. "We found ourselves in a hole going 0-8 starting the first half of this season. I told the girls that they needed to give effort and attitude and that's what they did today to secure the win."

Being down by as much as 10 during the first half, the Lady Bulldogs rallied to keep the halftime score close and force overtime in the closing minutes.

Jayiah Ransom (Jackson) led the team in scoring with 14. She was joined in double digits by Lia Smith (Columbia) with 13, Deondrea Young (McComb) with 10, Halie Merritt (Jackson) with 10 and Chasity Woodard (Jackson) with 10.

The Lady Bulldogs also took care of business at the charity stripe, going 23-29 for 79%.
