Box Score 2 GOODMAN – Hinds Community College baseball (8-8, 1-1 conf.) split a double-header with Holmes Community College on Friday to open 2022 conference play. The games, originally scheduled for Saturday, was moved up to Friday due to weather.
The Eagles took game one in 11 innings 9-8 and fell 4-0 in game two to the Bulldogs.
Game one
Holmes struck first in game one in the bottom of the first inning when they scored one run. In response, the Eagles scored one run in the second to tie the game.
The Bulldogs then took their second lead of the game in the fourth inning on a two-run homerun.
Hinds started producing runs again later in the ballgame when
Reed Kellum cashed in an RBI double in the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, the Eagles tied the game back up at four on two big hits from
Josh Rodriguez and
Clay Benson. The Eagles then put up a four-spot in the eighth inning behind a
Justin Williams three-run homerun and a Benson sacrifice fly that scored
Gavin Mink, but the Bulldogs tied the game up in the bottom half.
The game moved to extra innings and the Eagles pulled away in the eleventh inning when Kellum hit an RBI single.
Clayton Thurman pitched lights out for the final three innings, striking out six batters in relief.
At the plate, the Eagles recorded three multi-hit performances.
Vantrel Reed, Thurman and Benson all recorded two singles in the contest. Benson also had two RBI's in game one.
Justin Williams drew the start and pitched 4.2 innings, only giving up two hits and striking out four.

Nasson Rodriguez and
Austin Fugler all saw time on the mound in game one.
Game two
In game two,
Holland Townes drew the start and recorded his second double-digit strikeout performance of the season 10 punchouts. The Ridgeland native now has 44 strikeouts through 28.1 innings of work this season.
At the plate,
Vantrel Reed and
Clay Benson recorded another multi-hit game in game two when they both had two singles.
Clayton Thurman and
Gentry Tigrett both added singles in the contest for the Eagles.
Next up for the Eagles is a trip to Wesson on Tuesday to take on Copiah Lincoln Community College. First pitch for game one of the double-header is set for 3 p.m.
