Eagles Pick Up a Pair of Wins in Walk-Off Fashion

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Baseball team picked up two exciting walk-off wins on Tuesday at Joe G. Moss Field. The Eagles picked up a victory against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 12-11 in the opening game and returned for the nightcap to secure the 9-8 win against Itawamba Community College. 
 
GAME ONE
 
Clay Benson opened the scoring for the Eagles with an RBI-Single to right first that scored Ashton Johnson in the bottom of the first inning. In the same inning, the Eagles scored two additional runs from a sac fly from Cole Smith and an RBI-Single from Tyler Janos to give the Eagles the 3-0 advantage at the end of the first inning.
 
Dylan Coleman extended the lead to 4-0 when he roped a double to right field that scored Ashton Johnson in the bottom of the second inning. The visitors closed the gap and scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 4-3 with the Eagles holding on to the advantage.
 
The Eagles offense came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring seven runs to extend the lead to 11-3. The Bulldogs responded in the top of the sixth inning and scored four runs to bring the score to 11-7. Going into the seventh and final inning, the Bulldogs loaded the bases and hit a grand slam to tie the ballgame up at 11. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Connor Chisolm lined a ball to right field to get a runner on base. Dylan Coleman was the next batter and cleared the bases on an RBI-Double to walk it off for the Eagles to secure the 12-11 victory. 
 
Offensively, the Eagles were led by Dylan Coleman going 3-5 from the plate and collecting five RBI. Connor Chisolm, Clay Benson, and Evan McCarthy all had multiple hits in the contest. Connor Nation got the start for the Eagle on the mound and tossed 3.0 innings and gave up two runs. Alex McGarth came in to relieve Nation pitched for two innings and struck out four batters. Austin Robinson was the fifth pitcher and final pitcher for Hinds and earned his first victory of the year. 
 
GAME TWO
 
The visitors scored the first four runs of the contest in the first and second inning to take a 4-0 advantage. The Eagles got on the board and scored six runs in the third inning after an error, RBI-Single, and a grand slam from Cameron Hill to bring the score to 6-4.
 
The Indians scored in the fourth and fifth inning to tie the ballgame up at 6. Hinds responded in the bottom of the fifth when Cameron Hill lined a double to left field to give the Eagles the 7-6 advantage. After a scoreless sixth inning, Itawamba tied the game and had the 8-7 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. With one out in the seventh, Lincoln Sheffield reached base by an error and Tyler Janos stepped up to the plate and hit a moonshot to left field to walk it off for the Eagles. Hinds went on to secure the 9-8 victory and went 2-0 on the day. 
 
Cameron Hill led the Eagles going 2-4 from the plate and registered five RBI in the contest. Clay Benson had a .500 batting average in the game and scored two runs. Five other Eagles collected a hit in the game to improve Hinds' record to 9-2 overall. 
 
Mayson Shealy started on the mound for the Eagles and struck out three batters in the no-decision. John David Gunn came in relief and earned two strikeouts in two innings. Cole Smith came in late and tossed an inning to earn his first win of the year. 
 
UP NEXT
 
The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, February 25 against Co-Lin Community College and Meridian Community College at Joe G. Moss Field. Hinds will square off with the Wolves at 12 PM before returning for the nightcap at 6 PM.
