Box Score RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College football secured a thrilling 31-29 victory over the No. 7 ranked Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves in their first home game of the 2025 season.
Hinds struck early in the first quarter with a 27-yard touchdown pass from
Jaylon Ruffin to
Braishun Forbes, taking a 7-0 lead. Copiah-Lincoln answered with a 22-yard field goal by Ty Jones, then surged ahead after Kendarius Porter's 9-yard touchdown run, making it 10-7. But just before the quarter ended,
Wyatt Long tied it up for Hinds with a 32-yard field goal.
Momentum swung again in the second quarter when Martavious Boswell broke free for a 40-yard touchdown run, putting Co-Lin ahead 17-10. However, Ruffin and Forbes connected once more on a 69-yard strike to tie the game at 17-17.
In the third quarter, Hinds reclaimed the lead as
Detraun Brown rushed for a 7-yard touchdown. Co-Lin responded in the fourth with a 16-yard run by Boswell, but the missed extra point left them trailing 24-23. Hinds capitalized with
Kamron Sandlin's 4-yard touchdown, extending their lead to 31-23.
With just 26 seconds remaining, Co-Lin mounted one final push. Eli Vinlard powered into the end zone from 7 yards out, but the two-point conversion attempt failed, sealing the 31-29 victory for Hinds.
Quarterback
Jaylon Ruffin led the offense with a strong performance, completing 22 of 36 passes for 212 yards and 4 touchdowns, despite throwing one interception.
Geron Johnson paced the rushing attack with 33 yards on 8 carries, while
Julius Bradley added 16 yards.
Braishun Forbes was the standout receiver, hauling in 6 catches for 122 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a long of 69 yards.
Detraun Brown added 40 yards and a touchdown on 5 receptions and rushed for a score.
Nehemiah Taylor,
Kiandre Terry, and others contributed key receptions in a balanced offensive effort.
Jermar McCarter led the defense with 10 tackles, while
RJ Hall added eight tackles and a clutch breakup.
Jalen Owens and
Caleb Bryant made plays in the backfield, each recording tackles for loss, with Bryant also notching a sack.
Floyd Harris chipped in with another stop behind the line of scrimmage. In the secondary, Keenan Palmer grabbed a key interception, while
Kevin Beckham and
Kaleb Washington disrupted passes. Finishing with 73 tackles, five breakups, and two sacks, the Eagles' defense proved to be the anchor of the game.
Special teams shined in the victory over Co-Lin.
Wyatt Long was perfect, hitting a 32-yard field goal and all four extra points for seven total points.
Ryan Harvey handled punting and kickoffs, averaging 37.2 yards per punt and 57.2 yards on kickoffs.
DJ Miller sparked the return game with 111 yards on three kickoffs, while
Kevin Beckham added 46 interception return yards and 12 punt return yards.
Keannan Palmer chipped in a 25-yard interception return.
Hinds will return to action on Thursday, September 18
th against Mississippi Delta CC for Sophomore Night. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM!
