In game two, Hunter Duvic of St. Francisville, La., a freshman pitcher, got his first start on the mound and earned the win with five stellar innings of work.

In the season opener against East Mississippi Community College on Wednesday, Alex Gunn picked right up where he left off after a standout 2011 freshman season. The sophomore lefthander, who signed early with the University of Memphis, was outstanding for six innings, allowing only one run and no walks to claim a no decision.

Akins threw the final three frames of the game to collect the win, his first of the season. He also got the game-winning hit in the top of the ninth inning, driving in two runs with a single to leftfield.

Akiko Thompson of Clinton, a freshman outfielder, had a remarkable debut at the plate for the Eagles, finishing with five hits over the doubleheader to help lead the offense. He also collected multiple hits in Friday's doubleheader sweep to get his career off to a blazing start.

The Eagle bats were out in full force in game two against East Mississippi, led by Ryno Martin-nez, who reached base three times, including a home run early in the contest. The sophomore infielder from Vicksburg, who is headed to Louisiana Tech University, also had a standout day at third base, handling numerous tough chances.

Nathan Aultman of Mangham, La., a freshman pitcher, collected the game two win by filling in nicely in relief in the game's middle innings.

Hinds will return to game action on Thursday, traveling to Baton Rouge (La.) Community College for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
