The No.1 ranked Hinds Community College baseball team scored a pair of one-run victories over Jones County Junior College on Wednesday night in Raymond to improve to 33-4 overall and 20-4 in Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) play.

Hinds overcame 9-0 and 11-2 deficits in game one, as well as being down 13-12 heading into the last inning, to win the opener, 14-13. The walk-off win was the second consecutive of its kind for the Eagles, who would win the nightcap by the score of 6-5 over JCJC.

After being down 9-0 heading into the bottom of the third, the Eagles scored two runs to cut the Bobcat lead to 9-2, but JCJC responded with two of their own to move the lead to 11-2.

However, the Eagles did as they have done all season, scoring seven runs in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 11-9 and added another run in the fifth inning to make it 11-10.

JCJC added a run in the sixth inning to increase the lead to 12-10, but Hinds responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie things up at 12 before a rain delay of nearly an hour hit the Raymond area.

Both teams went scoreless in the eighth inning once the delay was wrapped up, but the Bobcats added a run in the top of the ninth inning to go up 13-12.

Things looked bleak for the Eagles' comeback hopes, but Jordan Washam (Sterlington, La.) hit a two-out double and then tied the game on a follow-up double from Casey Echols (Braxton).

A single from Hunter Bell (Vicksburg) put runners at first and third, and Echols would score the winning run on a 1-2 wild pitch with Quade Smith (Brandon) at the dish to set off a celebration that has become commonplace at Joe G. Moss Field.

Austin Sanders (Madison) threw the final inning and moved to 4-0 with the win after giving up one hit and striking out one.

Jordan Washam was 4-5 with two doubles and two RBI, while his twin brother Jonathan Washam (Sterlington, La.) and Marshall Boggs (Cleveland) each had three hits in game one.

Echols and Tyler Cox (Brandon) had two hits apiece to help pace the 18-hit attack.

The second game had less offensive fireworks, but the heated rivalry had just as much excitement and tension as the opener.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Hinds came back with four runs of their own in the bottom half, led by a three-run, opposite field home run from Boggs. The homer was the third of the season for the sophomore first baseman.

JCJC put a big inning of its own together in the top of the second, however, scoring three runs to knot things up at four.

Hinds added a run in the bottom of the second and fourth innings to push the lead to 6-4, and Casey Sutton (Monroe, La.) and Sanders made sure the lead stood up for good.

Sutton moved to 5-1 on the season after throwing six innings and allowing four hits and five runs (three earned), while picking up five strikeouts and walking only one batter.

Sanders threw a scoreless seventh inning to pick up his 10th save of 2015, and the sophomore flame thrower has now reached double-digit saves in consecutive seasons, as he also had 10 saves as a freshman in 2014.

Smith and Matt Jones (Madison) had two hits to lead the Hinds offense in game two.

The Eagles will travel to Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead for a 1 p.m. start before wrapping up the 2015 regular season at home on Monday versus Meridian Community College at 3 p.m.
