The No. 1 ranked Hinds Community College baseball team won the 2015 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) regular season championship on Monday after sweeping Meridian Community College in a doubleheader held at Smith Wills Stadium in Jackson.

Hinds won game one, 11-4, and game two, 13-8, to earn the number one seed in the MACJC and the right to host the first round of the state playoffs against Southwest Community College, the number eight seed, on Friday and Saturday in Raymond.

Game one will get underway at 6 p.m. on Friday night at Joe G. Moss Field in Raymond, with game two to be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the same location.

If necessary, game three will follow roughly 30 minutes following game two on Saturday.

Hinds (36-5 overall and 23-5 in the MACJC) had 14 hits in Monday's opener versus Meridian en route to an 11-4 win.

The Eagles were led by Jonathan Washam (Sterlington, La.) in game one, as the sophomore catcher went 3-5 with two RBI.

Monday's first game was preceded by a recognition ceremony on the field for the 2015 sophomore class, which has gone 72-18 in the last 90 games dating back to March 2014.

Hunter Bell (Vicksburg), Marshall Boggs (Cleveland) and Matt Jones (Madison) all added two hits, with Jones picking up three RBI and Boggs adding two of his own.

Keller Bradford (Raymond) was outstanding in relief in game one, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing only two hits and no runs. He earned the win on the hill to go to 1-0.

Hinds continued the offensive attack in game two yesterday, adding 13 more runs and 11 hits to finish off the two-game sweep over the Eagles of Meridian.

Casey Echols (Braxton) was the hero of the game, going 3-4 with two doubles, a triple and four RBI to lead the charge.

Boggs and the Washam twins (Jonathan and Jordan) all added two hits, while Tyler Cox (Brandon) and Lunceford each had RBI doubles, with Cox driving in three runs on his double.

Timothy Jordan (Laurel) recorded two outs in the middle of the game with Hinds trailing before the Eagles exploded for six runs to move ahead and earn him the victory. The freshman right-hander is now 3-0 on the season.

The two games on Monday were coming on the heels of a doubleheader at Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead on Sunday, one in which the Eagles split.

Hinds won game one, 4-1, before falling in extra innings in game two by the score of 7-6.

Jordan Washam continued his hot hitting with a 3-4 performance and a run scored in Sunday's opener. He had two doubles and a single in the 4-1 win versus Delta.

Chase Lunceford (Clinton) and Quade Smith (Brandon) each had two hits in game one on Sunday, and that proved to be more than enough for Randy Bell (Woodville).

The sophomore right-hander moved to 9-0 after throwing seven innings and allowing only run to score, while scattering seven hits and striking out 10 Trojan hitters.

Austin Sanders (Madison) threw the final two innings to record his 11th save of the season. He is now the single-season (11) and career leader (21) in saves at Hinds after picking up 10 saves as a freshman in 2014.

The Eagles of Hinds dropped game two 7-6 on Sunday after leading 6-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning.

Boggs and Lunceford each had two hits in game two at Delta, with Lunceford hitting a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put Hinds ahead at the time.

Hunter Austin (Vicksburg) added a two-run double in the top of the eighth.

Sanders took the loss on the mound to fall to 4-1 on the season.
