Hinds Soccer Secures North Division Win 3-1 over NWCC

JACKSON- The Hinds Eagles soccer team secured a 3-1 come from behind victory over Northwest Mississippi Community College (NWCC) on Tuesday (Sept 13).

This game was originally scheduled to be played at home on Tom Shephard Field in Raymond at 7 p.m. However, with all the rain the past few weeks, the Eagles relocated and played on the turf at Millsaps College with a mid-day start time of 12:30 p.m.

After a hard-fought first half, the Eagles found themselves in a 1-0 deficit with just under 32 minutes left in regulation. Freshman forward, Andrew Klinck (Southaven), changed that when he scored his first goal of the game to tie it up 1-1. Sophomore midfielder, Rob Lanke (Madison) assisted on the goal.

Just a few minutes later, Klinck got fouled inside the box acquiring the Eagles a penalty kick. Guilherme De Sousa (Fortaleza, Brazil) capitalized and drilled the penalty kick past the NWCC goal keeper to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

With just 9 minutes left in regulation, Klinck found the back of the net for his second goal of the game to solidify the 3-1 victory over the Rangers. The Klinck goal was assisted by sophomore defender Kevin Martinez (Biloxi).

Following the win, head coach Doug Williams stated, "Playing on turf drastically changes the speed of the ball compared to playing on grass, but I thought our team adjusted well. I have been pleased with the way our guys have been able to overcome the adversity of the ongoing rain which forces us to practice indoors. We have played well so far, and I look to continue to get better as the season progresses."

Klinck has been a scoring machine tallying seven goals in just three games played.

"Andrew was a center midfielder and we changed his position to center forward. He has embraced it and become a premier scorer in our league," said Williams.

With this victory the Eagles improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the North Division of the MACJC.

They will be back in action this Friday (Sept. 14) when they take on East Central Community College (1-4, 1-2) on the road in Decatur. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
