Men’s Soccer to face #2 Jones in Region Semifinals

RAYMOND – Hinds Community College men's soccer, after downing Co-Lin 4-2 in the NJCAA Gulf South District Quarterfinals Friday, is set to take on second-ranked Jones College in Ellisville Friday, November 4. Kickoff for the match is set for 7:30 p.m.
 
Quarterfinal Recap
 
The Eagles scored four total goals in the contest with two coming in each half. The first goal was scored by Tony King (Vicksburg), who was assisted by Sonny Bizure (North Billerica, MA). The second first half goal came from the head of Jovan Mihajlovic (Serbia), who headed a corner kick off the foot of João Pereira (Portugal).
 
Aft the Wolves equalized the match in the second half, Pereira put the Eagles back on top with 10 minutes remaining. He was assisted by Andrew Pollan (Starkville) on the goal. The last goal which sealed the deal was scored by Bizure, who was assisted by King.
 
Looking Forward
 
After the victory against Co-Lin, the Eagles secured their fourth straight trip to the final four of the region tournament.
 
"It's great to be back in the final four, so we are excited for the opportunity," said head coach Robert Gardner. "We beat the number two team in the league in the quarterfinals, so we are looking forward to playing another top team."
 
The Bobcats were crowed the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) champions after their first undefeated season in program history. After being crowned champion, Jones gets to host the semifinals and finals of the tournament for the conference's men and women's teams.
 
Jones is led in scoring by Yussef Hakmaoui (England), who has 14 goals on the season. Hakmaoui also has the team leading 14 assists. The second leading scorer is Denim Lombard (Gulfport), who has eight goals on the year. Tyler Harris (Brandon) has been handling the majority of goalkeeping duties for the Bobcats and has 44 saves on the year.
 
"Jones is an excellent team with an excellent coach," said Gardner. "We do, however, like that we were their last opponent in the regular season because we played them well."
 
João Pereira leads the Eagles in scoring with seven goals. He is closely followed by Sonny Bizure and Gavin Gaudin (Flowood), who have five goals. Tyler Ivory, the Eagle keeper, has played all minutes in goal for Hinds and has made 75 saves on the year.
