Box Score VICKSBURG – Hinds Community College baseball (6-3) came-from-behind to beat Southwest Mississippi Community College 8-6 at Sports Force Parks in Vicksburg Tuesday evening.
Due to rain, game two against Mississippi Delta Community College was called after three innings with the score tied at 3-3.

Dan Rives was proud of his lineup's timely hitting and pitching in the win.
"I was proud of our guys for hanging in there and getting the big hits when we needed it the most," said Rives. "Our pitchers kept us in the ballgame and gave us a chance to come back and win that game."
Redshirt Freshman pitcher
Kendrick Bershell (Vicksburg) drew the start on the bump for the Eagles in game one. Bershell battled with opposing starting pitcher Jace Ochoa, with no runs being surrendered until the fourth inning. Bershell exited after 3.2 innings of work, striking out four and giving up three runs on five hits.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Bears broke open the scoring with a solo homerun and a double to take a 3-0 going into the bottom half. The Eagles were able to score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Josh Rodriguez (Belleville, NJ) led the inning off with a double and was eventually scored on a
Clay Benson (Monroe, LA) single to right field.
Connor Chisolm (Madison), who was hit by a pitch, came around to score the Eagles' second run on a wild pitch to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Bears after four complete.
Coming in to relieve Bershell was freshman
Connor Nation (Madison), who held the Bears scoreless in the top of the fifth inning. The Eagles took advantage and scored another run to tie the game after
Vantrel Reed (Vicksburg) singled to lead off the inning and was later scored on another Rodriguez double.
The Bears broke the tie in the top of the sixth inning, scoring three runs on a triple, passed ball and a bases-loaded walk.
The Eagle bats exploded in the bottom half of the sixth inning and scored five runs to give them the 8-6 lead.
Clayton Thurman (Vicksburg) led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch. Shortstop
Gavin Mink (Olive Branch) drew a one-out walk, leading him and Thurman to advance to second and third base on a wild pitch. A two-out walk by
Vantrel Reed and pinch-hitter
Robi Riggin (Learned) scores the first run of the inning. The second and third run of the inning came off the bat of
Reed Kellum (Jackson), who doubled to center field to bring in Mink and Reed. Following up Kellum was Rodriguez, who doubled in Riggin and Kellum for his third double of the day. Rodriguez finished with three runs batted in on the day.
Madison native
Justin Williams came in to relieve Nation in the top of the sixth inning and was able to slam the door shut in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the 8-6 victory. Williams pitched two innings, striking out two and giving up one earned run on two hits.
The Eagles are back on the diamond on Monday, February 28 when they head down to Baton Rouge to take on Baton Rouge Community College. The first pitch of the double-header is set for 3 p.m.
