Box Score 2 RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Baseball team picked up two wins to earn the sweep over Coahoma on Sophomore Day at Joe G. Moss Field. The Eagles won game one 14-8 and earned the 5-3 victory in game two.
After a double and a hit by pitch,
Graham Busbea hit a line drive three-run homer to right field to give the eagles the early advantage in the bottom of the first inning. The visitors scored two in the second the cut the lead to one run. In the bottom half of the frame, Busbea hit his second homerun of the contest with this one being a Grand Slam to make the score 7-2. McCrillis picked up an RBI single to left field to push the lead to six runs. Coahoma returned to the plate in the top of the third inning and score two runs, Hinds still held on to the advantage.
In the top of the fourth inning,
Takorre Clowers drove in
Graham Busbea to make the score 9-4. The Tigers cut the lead to three in the top of the fifth inning, but Hinds turned around in the bottom of the frame and scored one run. The bats came alive for the Eagles in the bottom of the sixth inning as they scored five runs to make the score 14-6. Coahoma grabbed two in the eighth, but the Eagles went on to capture the game one victory.
Graham Busbea led the Eagles offense going 3-5 from the plate with four runs scored and 7 RBI.
RJ Brown also had a trio of hits in the game, while
Zan Ellis registered a couple of hits.
Ford McDaniel earned the win on the mound for the Eagles going five innings and striking out six batters in the game.
The Eagles scored four runs in the top of the first inning after a bases clearing triple by
Ethan Keen and a Sacrifice fly by
Kaleb Lipscomb. The Tigers got a run back in the top of the second inning to make the score 4-1. After two scoreless innings, the visitors scored two runs in the fifth to cut the lead to just one run. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Ethan keen hit a solo shot to right field to extend the lead. Hinds went on to take the 5-3 victory and earn the sweep over Coahoma.
Ethan Keen led the Eagles at the plate going 2-3, scored two runs, and totaled four RBI in the contest.
Takorre Clowers and
Kaleb Lipscomb were the other Eagles who registered a hit.
Carson Reed went the distance on the mound for the Eagles and only gave up seven hits while striking out five batters.
Hinds will return to action on Tuesday, April 29 as they travel to Perkinston to take on Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the final doubleheader of the 2024-25 season. First pitch of the doubleheader is 3:00 PM.
