Box Score 3 YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Hinds Community College Softball team opened the 2026 season in impressive fashion, going a perfect 3–0 at the Mardi Gras Invitational. The Invitational featured wins over Angelina College (TX), 7–5; Baton Rouge Community College, 9–3; and a thrilling 14–12 comeback victory over Gulf Coast State (FL).
Angelina College
The Lady Eagles struck first in the top of the second inning when
Alyx Hall reached on an error and scored on an RBI double by Abby McLean, who later came home on a two-out single by
Aubrie Carter.
Emma Hudson led off the fourth inning with a double and once again scored on a clutch two-out hit from Carter.
In the fifth, Hinds added two more runs following an
Addison Galloway single and an error on a
Jalia McDaniel bunt. McDaniel later crossed the plate on a walk by Hudson. The offense added insurance in the seventh as McDaniel doubled to lead off the inning, followed by an error and a sacrifice fly by McLean.
In the circle, sophomore
Jazmin Robertson allowed two runs over three innings before handing the ball to freshman McLean, who surrendered three runs across four innings of relief.
Baton Rouge Community College
The Lady Eagles picked up right where they left off, scoring two runs in the first inning as Galloway and McDaniel came home on an error and a pair of passed balls. After being held scoreless through the middle innings, McLean delivered a two-out double in the fifth to drive in
Shailey Peterson and Hudson.
The sixth inning saw the offense break things open. Doubles from Carter,
Mackenzie Smith, and Hall produced three runs on three hits and a walk. Two more insurance runs followed in the seventh after a leadoff walk by
Miranda Parker and consecutive hits from Carter,
Aaliyah Nixon, and Galloway.
Freshman
Claire Mellard went the distance in her collegiate debut, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out four.
Gulf Coast State
For the first time all weekend, the Eagles faced a deficit of more than one run. Trailing 4–1 in the third, Hudson delivered a clutch two-out double to score Galloway and Nixon. The Eagles tied the game in the fourth on back-to-back two-out singles by Nixon and Galloway.
After reclaiming the lead in the fifth following a McDaniel walk and consecutive singles by Hall, Hudson, and McLean, Gulf Coast State answered with seven runs in the sixth to regain control.
Carla Herrington sparked the response with a leadoff walk, followed by doubles from Galloway and McDaniel to cut the deficit to 11–9.
The Commodores added one more in the seventh, setting up a dramatic final inning. Hudson opened with a solo home run, and back-to-back doubles from McLean and Carter pulled the Eagles within one. After a walk to Nixon, Galloway stepped up and delivered her fourth hit of the game, driving in her fifth run and sealing a walk-off win and the Eagles' third victory of the tournament.
The Lady Eagles return to action on February 10 as they travel back to Louisiana for a doubleheader against Baton Rouge Community College, beginning at 1 p.m.
