The first round of the annual Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) baseball playoffs starts on Friday, and the Hinds Community College Eagles will hit the road in their quest for another state championship.

Hinds (29-16 overall), the number three seed from the South division, heads to Senatobia to face Northwest Community College (25-21), the number two seed from the North division, in a best two-of-three series to determine who will advance to the MACJC state tournament.

The MACJC state tournament, which was won by Hinds in 2010, will be held the following weekend at the highest seeded North division team remaining.

Game one of the three game set will be played on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. on the campus of Northwest. Game two will be played on Saturday at 2 p.m., with game three to follow 30 minutes after the completion of game two, if necessary.

The Eagles of Hinds fell to the Jones County Junior College Bobcats, 6-4, on Monday in Raymond to complete the regular season. The game was played as the completion of a game that was rained out on April 3.

Chris Jones (Mendenhall) went 3-3 with two runs scored to lead Hinds on Monday.

Monday's game with the Bobcats was the third in as many days, as the two teams played a doubleheader in Ellisville on Saturday. Jones came from behind to win game one, 4-3, in eight innings before winning the nightcap, 3-0.

Justin Smith (Florence) led the way offensively in game one, going 2-4 and driving in three runs.

Tyler Akins (Madison) and Beau Wallace (Vicksburg) also had two hits in Saturday's opener.

Akins took the loss on the mound in game one to fall to 5-3, after the Bobcats pushed two runs across in the bottom of the eighth for the come-from-behind, walk-off victory.

Daniel Gilbert (Ridgeland) went 2-3 in the second game to lead the Eagles.

Kirk Thornton (Flora) suffered his second hard-luck loss in a seven day span despite a courageous effort. He fell to 1-3 on the season.
