Burnham & Upton win prestigious Eagle Awards

Victoria Burnham (Florence) and Caleb Upton (Natchez) were the winners of the prestigious Lady Eagle and Eagle Awards at the annual Hinds Community College athletic awards day that was held in Cain-Cochran Hall on Thursday afternoon.
 
Burnham and Upton received these awards based on their achievements in the classroom, in the community and on the playing field.

Burnham, a sophomore soccer player who played a vital role as a defender for the Lady Eagles, was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and to Phi Theta Kappa for her 3.72 GPA, which resulted in her winning the 3E Award.
 
She has also been involved in numerous community service projects, including time spent with The Little Light House, Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children and has written cards to members of the United States military.

Upton, a sophomore catcher who was named to the 2013 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All- State team and was selected as the Team MVP as a freshman, has been named to the President's List all three previous semesters with a 3.95 GPA and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the Honors Forum at Hinds, Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and serves on the Baptist Student Union (BSU) lead team.

He was also selected as the Hinds student honoree for the Higher Education Appreciation Day-Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) program and was honored by the Mississippi State Legislature as the top overall student at Hinds Community College.

Upton has also served in many capacities through community service, including volunteering with the Salvation Army Angel Tree, the Boys and Girls Club, Reviving Baseball in the Inner City (RBI) and has twice participated in a fundraiser for the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital, among other events.
