UTICA- The Hinds Community College women's basketball team has gotten-off to a great start grabbing a pair of wins on November 8 and 10 giving the team a record of 3-0 in the first three contests of the young season.
First year head coach
Jackie Martin-Glass saw her Lady Bulldogs to a pair of victories over MACJC opponents in last week's endeavors. The two wins featured a 63 – 53 affair with Coahoma Community College and the team's second bout with Mississippi Delta Community College this season which ended with Hinds on top 79 - 70.
In the November 8 battle against Coahoma, a pair of sophomore returners
Victoria Johnson (Camden) and
Nakaylis Washington (McComb) led the way in scoring for Hinds putting in 11 and 17 points for the Lady Bulldogs, respectively. Johnson, who finished second in the NJCAA in scoring last season, also chipped-in four rebounds along with two assists and two steals. Washington also put together a solid game adding six rebounds, two assists, and a steal to her line.
Freshman
Antrell Gales (Fayette) recorded the team's first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds on the day. The freshman center was also a force on defense as she rejected five shots and collected one steal against Coahoma.
The "big three" led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring against Mississippi Delta as well with Johnson leading the way with 24 points. Washington rounded her 12-point scoring effort out with eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block against the Lady Trojans.
The Hinds women's basketball team will look to continue their winning streak when they take on Holmes Community College in Goodman on November 12 at 6:00 p.m. After this MACJC bout, the Lady Bulldogs will have a break in action before resuming play at Baton Rouge Community College on December 1.
