Eagles win nightcap at BPCC on Wednesday

Jackson Mitchell (8) had two hits in both games on Wednesday

The Hinds Community College baseball team traveled to Shreveport, La., in the first road doubleheader of the young 2016 season and came away with a split of the two-game set.
 
Hinds won game two, 13-2, after dropping the opener, 3-2.
 
Chase Cockrell (Bastrop, La.) had a four-hit game and five RBI in the nightcap on Wednesday, as he had a two-run home run, two-run double and two singles (one with an RBI) in the blowout win.
 
Jackson Mitchell (Brandon) helped lead the way in both games for the Eagles (2-2 overall), as he had two hits in each game of the doubleheader.
 
Will Craft (Hernando) added two hits with two RBI and two runs scored in the second game.
 
Quinton Logan (Natchez) earned the win on the mound in game two after going three innings and allowing two earned runs, while striking out four BPCC batters to improve to 1-0 on the season.
 
Darrius Wright (Yazoo City) threw two shutdown innings in his collegiate debut and was followed by scoreless innings from Brandon Ross (Natchez) and Colin Coates (Nesbit), who each had one apiece.
 
Carlisle Koestler (Vicksburg) earned his second consecutive no-decision after throwing 4.2 solid innings and allowing only two runs, all while scattering five hits and striking out four.
 
David Hodo (Waynesboro) took the tough loss to fall to 0-1 on the season.
 
Trey Jolly (New Albany) drove in a run on a single and Kyle O'Keefe added an RBI double to pace the Hinds offense, but it wasn't enough.
 
Mitchell had two hits and scored a run, while Cockrell added a hit and scored the team's other run.
 
Hinds returns home on Saturday, welcoming Panola (Texas) College to Raymond for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Joe G. Moss Field.
